About UAS At CNU
The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) club at Christopher Newport University is dedicated in learning and development around drone technology and aerial innovation.
During the semester, our members get together every week to experiment and push the boundaries of autonomous drone development, seeking guidance from faculty as needed. Our efforts are driven by the following key attributes.
Growth
Not everyone who joins the club starts as an expert. We value hands-on learning (even if it means shorting a few circuits) and encourage our members to get their hands dirty as they learn.
Innovation
The drone may not take flight on the first try, but each failure gives rise to a new vision. As William Edward Hickson once said, "When at first you don't succeed, try try again!"
Community
When we are not elbows-deep in a drone, the club participates in local conferences and conventions to connect with professionals in the field.
The Highlights
Our Mission
Every year, CNU UAS competes in the SUAS competition. While our primary goal is to bring home a trophy, we also strive to create an environment of growth to foster the skills of current and incoming members.
